Waterfalls in Thrissur district
Waterfalls are beautiful wonders hidden in the dense forests like pearls in the mussels. Thrissur district is rich in waterfalls that amaze the viewers. How many waterfalls are there in Thrissur district?
1.Athirapilly Waterfalls
Athirappilly Waterfalls is located in Athirappilly Panchayat, Chalakudy Taluk, Thrissur District. Chalakudy Falls is a waterfall that cascades down from a height of about 80 Ft. It is surrounded by forests and is home to many birds. These waterfalls originate from the upper reaches of the Western Ghats and the entrance to the Sholayar Range. It is the largest waterfall in Kerala. Dense forests on both sides of the Athirappilly Falls are a treasure trove of rare biodiversity. The sanctuary is home to a number of birds such as the hornbill, the skylark, the black hawk, the Madatha, the wild parrot and the heron. Apart from this, the forest is also home to elephants, wild buffaloes, wolves, tigers, black monkeys, lion-tailed monkeys and baby butterflies. These forests are inhabited by tribals such as the Katar and the Malayar.
Athirappilly is also a popular location for Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi movies. Here is a music scene from director Mani Ratnam's movie Raavan. The famous waterfall scenes in the big budget film Bahubali have been expanded with the help of graphics shot in Athirappilly. The next two places are Charpa Falls and Vazhachal Falls. Athirapally Falls is located 30 km east of Chalakudy and about 32 km southeast of Thrissur. It is located on the Chalakudy-Valparai road.
2.Pattathipara waterfalls
Pattathipara Falls is one of the lesser known waterfalls in Thrissur district. The water from Vellayani Hill flows through the forest and falls to a depth of 25 Ft. This waterfall is located at a distance of about 12 km from the city of Thrissur. water falls in several layers. However, the water falls in three main layers. During the monsoons, these valleys appear invisibly as a single waterfall. But this complete view is impossible because of the growing trees and shrubs. Waterfall is active from the monsoon till January and then the flow of water decreases.
It is believed that the name was derived from the fact that a Brahmin woman (Pattathi) once fell into a waterfall and died while returning to the forest to fetch firewood.
From Thrissur, take the National Highway to Palakkad for 11 km.This waterfall can be seen by stopping the vehicle and walking through the forest for a distance of 1 km. There is also the opportunity for a short trek. Next to it is a small barrier built years ago so you can go down and bathe in it. This is a great place for adventure seekers, photographers and nature lovers alike.
The beauty of the waterfall seems to be downhill to enjoy but it is also very dangerous. This place is very rocky and therefore prone to accidents.
3.Vazhachal waterfalls
Vazhachal Falls is a popular Waterfalls in the Thrissur district. Vazhachal Falls is located at a distance of 5 km from Athirappilly Falls. Vazhachal is situated close to the dense forests. Vazhachal Falls is a part of Chalakudy river.The cool, icy waters of this waterfall, the rocky terrain and the surrounding forests give the visitors a unique experience. Vazhachal Waterfall is a part of the Sholayar forest. Water flows down from a height of 490 ft. Vazhachal is located at a distance of 65 km from the district headquarters of Thrissur. The Chalakudy Anamalai Route is located at a distance of 35 km from Chalakudy. waterfall is located at an altitude of 8000 ft. Peringalkuthu Dam, Athirappilly Falls, Charpa Falls, Thumburmuzhi Dam, Dream World Aqua Theme Park and Silver Storm Water Theme Park are some of the nearby tourist attractions.
4.Marottichal Falls
Marottichal Falls is a popular tourist destination located in the Puthur Panchayath in Thrissur District. It is located at a distance of 22 km from the city of Thrissur. During the monsoons, nature creates a lot of beautiful scenery here. There are many waterfalls here, both large and small. But there is not much water in summer. You have to walk 4 km through the jungle to reach the main waterfall. Small waterfalls can be seen in many places along the one-lane road leading to the falls. From the top of a large cliff parallel to the waterfall, one can enjoy the beauty of the forest on one side and the waterfall on the other. Tourists can also reach the top and the place where the water jumps. This beautiful forest land is an experience that is soothing to the eyes.
Marottichal is located at a distance of 12 km from Kuttanallur on the Ernakulam-Palakkad National Highway. There is a private bus service from Thrissur to Marotichal. This is an ideal place for a day trip. There are only a few shops nearby. If you walk in a disciplined manner avoiding noise and commotion, you are more likely to see deer. The best time to visit this place is during the monsoons. This waterfall is a spectacular view of the waterfall that cascades down from the top and cascades down to the cliffs below.
It is a desolate place, the phone does not see the range, many people come and go, the forest card and the police can not see anything so security should be your own responsibility.
5.Charpa waterfalls
Charpa Falls is located on the tributary of the Chalakudy River between Athirappilly and Vazhachal waters in Thrissur district. The flow of the water on rock is as such that looks like milk flowing . The waterfall falls from a height of 70 Ft. Charpa falls is located at a distance of 60 km from Thrissur. This place for provide ideal photography and picturesque views.
The charpa is adjacent to the interstate highway. During the monsoons, the water from the falls reaches the road. The Charpa Bridge is located in front of the waterfall. During the summer, the waterfall dries up completely. Therefore, it is advisable to visit the falls during the monsoon season.
6.Kallakkunnu Waterfalls
Kallakkunnu Falls is located near Vaniyampara, between the Kuthiranmala and Vellayani hills in Thrissur district. This is the main catchment area of the Peachy Dam. Active during the monsoons, this waterfall flows into the Peachy Reservoir near Kudirana.
7.Cheru Chaki Chola Falls
Cheru Chucki Chola is a stream which flows through Chittanda and Poongode forests in Erumappetti Grama Panchayat near Vadakkancherry in Thrissur district. A waterfall that lies largely unnoticed. But a lot of people who have just been told are starting to come here now.
Legend of Cheru Chakki Chola
The area was once ruled by a savage gaffer. Cheru Chucky was a baby born to an elder who had been childless for a long time and was blessed by the forest goddess. The forest goddess had told the gaffer that the forest would be destroyed if Chuckie was left out of the forest. It is said that Chuckie, who was about to go out when he was an adult, was tied up by an gaffer in the forest. The story goes that the tears of this little chuck flowed into the little chuck chola.
On the way to the waterfall you can see many trees. During the monsoon season, the Cheru Chucki Chola overflows and becomes more beautiful. Cheru Chucki Chola is located at a distance of 23 km from Thrissur town. To reach Chola, one has to walk one kilometer through the forest. There are about seven small and large waterfalls in the area. This is a great place for nature lovers and trekkers alike.
8.Olakkayam waterfalls
This waterfall is located in Puthur Panchayath in Thrissur district. Olakkayam Falls is located near the Marottichal Falls. During the monsoon season, the waterfall becomes more active. Situated at a distance of 20 km from the city of Thrissur, it is easily accessible from the top and bottom of the falls. The view of the waterfall from below is very beautiful. The Olakkayam falls at Cheerakand is only 400 meters from the main road. There is a small walkways by the side of the canal which leads to the Olakkayam falls. It is said that the jungles occasionally roam here for water and food. Ensure your own safety without slipping on a rock. It is also very important to ensure the safety of the environment without dumping plastic waste.
9.Ambanoli Waterfalls
Ambanoli waterfall is located in Mattathoor Panchayath in Thrissur district. Many nature lovers come here to see the beauty of the waterfall and to enjoy the coolness of the flowing water. This beautiful place is located in the hilly region of Ambanoli. The waterfall is more active during the monsoon season. Many people come here from far and wide to enjoy the beauty of this waterfall.
It is a special sight to see the water flowing through the streams and scattering on the rocks. It is good to see this water falling from a height of about 35 Ft. The lower part of the waterfall has been transformed into a streams so visitors can take a dip. A little worse than a hundred meters down the road. Actually this waterfall is a private property. The waterfall is located at a distance of 1.5 km from Kodali and Kodunga.
10.Poolakundu Waterfalls
Poolakund Falls is located in Chelakkara in Thrissur district. It is a perfect place for picnic and observing nature. Poolakund waterfalls is around 3 km from Pangarapilly junction, on the way to Elanad. You have to walk a little through the forest to reach the waterfall. The bottom of the waterfall has been transformed into a small stream making it easy for visitors to bathe. If we look up from the top of the waterfall, we can see more of the beauty of the waterfall. The first few steps below the waterfall are made of natural stone. From here we can see the waterfall perfectly. From there you can get a beautiful view overlooking the top of Cascading Falls. This is an area that no one enters much.
11.Vattayi Waterfalls
This is a hidden waterfall in Thrissur district. A place where much is unknown to anyone. The waterfall is most active during the monsoon season. It is located near Mangalyappara in Kundukad village which is around 13 km from Thrissur. This waterfall is safe to take bathe and to spend time with family. Places to visit include mangalyappara, cheepara, poomala dam and pathazhakundu dam. It is an ideal destination for nature lovers and hikers alike.
There will be no police or guards here as it is a place where most people go unnoticed.Therefore, they must ensure their own safety. Do not bring unwanted waste and do not pollute nature.
