Wayanad is a cool place with forest, mountains, rivers, and animals. There are many places in Wayanad that are endless to see and say. After the lockdown, many tourists flock to wayanad. All the closed tourist destinations are now open.



Places to visit in Wayanad

1.Chembra Peak

Chembra peak is the highest peak in Wayanad district.  The peak is located at an elevation of about 2100 M above sea level. Chembra is the catchment area of the Chaliyar and Kabani river. It is a popular destination for nature lovers and adventure climbers. Forest department has made it possible for tourists to visit this place. Only a few guides authorised by the forest conservation committee will be allowed to climb the mountain. Above the peak is a heart - shaped  natural lake. Heart lake is a beautiful sight. It is located at the confluence of the wayanad hills in the western ghats, the Nilgiri hills in Tamilnadu and the vellari hills in Kozhikode district. There is a foot path from Meppadi to Chembra peak. Chembra peak is located at a distance of 8 km from Kalpetta. If you want to go  trekking to Chembra peak, you need permission from the Meppadi forest office. The trekking pass must be obtained from the forest office. From meppadi town you have to travel 5 km  through the tea plantation of Erumakolli. Trekking to the top of the peak also takes about 3 hours. once you reach the top, you can see the entire view of the Wayanad district.

2.Neelimala View Point

Neelimala view point is a beautiful hill station. It is an important tourist destination of Wayanad. Neelimala is located in the southern part of Wayanad. It is located at a distance of 15 km from Meppadi near vaduvanchal. Neelimala can be reached from Kalpetta and Sultan Bathery. It is a popular destination for adventure climbers. Along the way you can see ditches and many sights. When you reach the top of the hill, you can see a beautiful view of meenmutty falls. During the monsoons, the view of this mountain which is always covered with snow, is breathtaking.



3.Manjappara

When we reach Manjappara, we can see the hidden beauty of Wayanad. The sunrise and sunset from here are beautiful. Below you can see the Karappuzha Dam.  The distance you can see the western ghats and the sprawling Wayanad fields. Manjappara village can be reached by traveling 2 km on the Vaduvanchal road from Ambalavayal. If you go a kilometer from there, you will reach the bottom of the rock.




4.Seethammkund Waterfall

Seethammakund waterfall is located at a distance of 5 km from Soochipara falls. The waterfall from the middle of the rocks which are not very high. The falling water falls into a natural lake. This waterfall is a part of a stream that flows from the forest. It is believed that sita devi was given water from here when she was thirsty and that it was here that the earth split and went down. The waterfall is located at a distance of 15 km from Meppadi in Mundakai town area.



5.Kadachikunnu

This is a place that not many people reach. No one knows if there is such a place in Wayanad. The whole forest, a small waterfall through the forest. The water jumps from a good height. Below is the jungle. The view of the mountain is breathtaking. This waterfall is located in the small village of Kadachikunnu. This is an elephant sanctuary. It is best to go  during the monsoon season. If you take the road from Kalpetta via Meppadi. You will reach the stop called Rippon , From there  turn right and go for 6 km to reach Kadachikunnu.



6.Aranamala Peak 

Aranamala is another important hill in wayanad. It is a more beautiful way to go than a mountain. This is an off- road route. A road full of woods , estates, bumps and pits. There are about 4 km of off - road. Along the way you can see wildlife. It is surrounded by lush green hills. Trekking is very simple. It is a mountain that is not very high. This hill is in the middle of the forest. You can hear the roar of a nearby waterfalls. It is surrounded by forest, seen in front is a part of Chembra peak . It is an area with only mountains and forest. Nearby are 900 kandi and Chembra peaks. If you go 8 km from Meppadi, you will start  your way here. It is off - road within 4 km. The best time to visit this place is after the monsoon.


7.Kattukunnu peak

This peak is located at an altitude of 4000 FT above sea level. From here, you can see the flood plain of Banasura sagar dam, Kakkayam dam and the southern part of wayanad district. It is a peak located in the Brahmagiri hills near the Banasura sagar dam. This hill is one of the most unknown mountain. This hill is a handful ahead of  chembra hill. Trekking starts from the forest office near Meenmutty falls. The trekking is organised by the varampetta forest conservation committee.



8.Arattupara



Arattupara  is a sunrise view point. This is a place where rocks have evolved over the centuries. There are many spots in Wayanad to watch the sunrise and this is a place where no one knows. This rock is located close to phantom rock. There are a lot of sights too see here. Makudappara, parapalam, pakshipara, muniyaras, and caves stretch over the large arched rocks. If you look from here, you can see Ambukuthimala, Karappuzha dam and phantom rock. Take the Kalpetta Bathery route for 12 km and reach Meenangadi 54. From here, take the Ambalavayal route for 4 km to reach Arattupara.



9.Uravu  Bamboo  Village

The uravu is started by a team of social and cultural activists. There is also a collection of bamboos that are many years old. The bamboo nursery is also nearby. There are many types of bamboos out there. There are a lot of beautiful products being made there. Today ,uravu produces over 200 permanent products, including jewelry, soap, light shades, and file and more than 2000 Custom - made products. In addition to handicrafts, food items are also made at the uravu. It is located at a distance of 22 km from Vaithiri, 21 km from Sultana Bathery and 7 km from Karappuzha dam. This is one of the must visit places in Wayanad.



10.Chooralmala waterfall


A waterfall flowing through the forest and tea gardens of Wayanad from the western ghats. The view through the rock is breathtaking. The waterfalls from a height of about 20 FT. Is to a natural pool where water flows. Essentially a deep pit, those who know how to swim can boldly descend. Chooralmala is a small village in Meppadi. The main crops are tea, pepper, and cardamom. A place no one can reach and bathe without much Fuss. It is located at distance of 6 km from Meppadi on the Chooralmala road. The monsoon season is very dangerous here.



11.Sunrise valley

Sunrise valley is a place where you can watch the beautiful sunrise. The rising sun through the hills of the valley is a sight to behold. You have to stop the car and walk 200 m to reach the view point. It is an indescribable sight to stand on top of a long Cliff. The chaliyar river can be seen like a thread in the valley. If you go to another view point , you can see Meenmutty falls. During the monsoon season, the forests are greenery in the valley. Vaduvanchal is located at a distance of 4 km from Meppadi road. It is located at a distance of 15 km from Meppadi.



12.900 Kandi

900 kandi means 900 acres. This is a completely private estate. 900 kandi will be an  unforgettable experience for anyone who loves nature. On the way from Meppadi to Soochipara falls, you can travel 10 km and reach 900 kandi via kalladi makham. From the bridge past kalladi makham take the narrow road to the right to reach 900 kandi. A glass bridge has been built here for tourists. It is also being touted by the owners as the first glass bridge in South India. The bridge was built for tourists visiting the resort inside the garden. A small bridge that can only be walked a few metres. The glass for this was brought from Italy. There will be an entrance fee to climb the glass bridge.

13.Kaduvakuzhi

A small hill that rises in the lap of nature in wayanad. A cave entrance on the side of the hill. From the top of the hill , you can see beautiful views, this is kaduvakuzhi.There is no better place to watch the sunset in Wayanad. This is a small road that turn right from the Ambalavayal - Karappuzha road. The road ends about 200 m from the Kaduvakuzhi. From there you can climb up the hill to reach the Kaduvakuzhi. It is a place of high risk. To ensure self security. From the outside, it looks like a gap between rocks. Only people with experience with safety equipment, including lights and ropes should enter the pit. The depth of pit is very high. You can climb the mountain without any difficulty. If you look from the top of the hill, you can see the aerial view of the karappuzha reservoir. The kaduvakuzhi is ideal place for small trekking in a short period of time.

14.Edakkal Cave


Edakkal cave is located on the Ambukuthi hill. The intervening caves were discovered at an altitude of 1200 FT above sea level. The paintings and carvings inside the cave  indicate the presence of the ancient inhabitants of the area . These caves are part of a huge historical monument. They were discovered in the year 1895 and have been a major attraction for tourists and historians ever since. There are a lot of carvings here. Humans, animals, tools, vehicles, every day events and scripts are also found here in various language scripts. Not only carvings but also ancient pottery and muniyaras have been found here. Many handicrafts found in the Wayanad heritage museum are still preserved. Edakkal cave are natural caves in the Western ghats and the Eastern ghats near Sultan bathery in wayanad district.

15.Kolagappara 

Kolagappara is one of the best tourist destination in Wayanad. It is a village situated in 15 km from Kalpetta the capital of Wayanad district.  This place is one of the best trekking spot in Wayanad. There is a 2 km steep walk to reach hill. Top from where you can see the view of wayanad  Krishnagiri cricket stadium from here. It is only 2 km to the edakkal cave. If you go up the hill, you can see mind blowing views. There will also be nice cool breezes to add charm to the views. You can also reach this place by turning from Ambalavayal  via Kumbleri. Kolagappara is beautiful place that is worth a visit to those who visit Kurumbolakotta.
