Picturesque Mountains of Chokramudi

 Chokramudi is a beautiful hill station located in the Munnar district of Idukki in the state of Kerala. This mountain is located on Munnar - Devikulam road. Chokramudi is a must visit for anyone interested in trekking. These giant mountains are a paradise for nature lovers and trekkers.  Chokramudi is the third highest mountain range in North India.

If we climb the mountain at around 5 in the morning, we can see a good sunrise. You have to cross three hills to reach the chokramudi. It takes about 3.5 hours to walk here. It will take as 2 hours to get back down. After 15 minutes of walking to the chokramudi , the fog will begin to cover. You can continue your trek through the mist covered mountains. There will be plenty of sights to see along the way. There is a guard under the chokramudi. Visiting hours for tourists are from 4 am to 3 pm. It would be nice to have a guide with you during the trekking. We have a lot of guides here. Chokramudi is located at an elevation of 7200 ft above sea level.


Trying to capture the beauty of the chokramudi hills in a sketch, will not be easy as the scenic beauty of the place is constantly changing. In the evenings, the mountains are covered with snow. This is also the perfect time to enjoy the cool Breezes. Chokramudi ,who knocks on the clouds, is a Marvel.

If you want to go chokramudi , you have to reach Munnar first. From there to Chinnakanal via Devikulam. From here trekking to chokramudi  will start via Gap road. If you look down from the top of the hill, you can see the beauty of the road and the lush green tea gardens.


The beginning here is greeted by steep cliffs. Therefore, you have to be very careful, if the foot slips, it will go down to the coca. There is a view point when you walk a little beyond the cliffs and reach the top. Tourists spend time there to watch the sunrise.


 There is also a crucifixion here, all on good Friday and people come here from the church arriving. Here, it's half way to chokramudi. Then there is a small descent. You have to go through the middle of a small forest to go later. After crossing the forest, it is a good steep climb. To rest occassionally. If you climb  this hill , you can reach chokramudi. Chokramudi is a huge rock that is curved. There is no end to the glory of the chokran. Then there is another mountain to cross in chokra, definitely a place to climb the view from here is good. The main view is of the grassy plains at the top of the hill. If we are lucky the fog will be come and cover us. A distant view of the kulamavu dam can be seen from here. Chokramudi is an ideal place for off-road riding and sightseeing.

Chokramudi is located at a distance of of 20 km from Munnar.

You have to eat food from Munnar town to reach Chokra hills. Consider water, snacks and nuts on hand. There are many resorts and lodges in Munnar to relax after trekking.
