Anamudi Everest

Anamudi is the highest peak in Kerala. Anamudi Shola national  park is located in the marayoor  village of  Devikulam taluk in Idukki district. It covers an area of 7.5 square kilometres. Anamudi Shola was declared a national park in 2004. Anamudi is located to the south of Eravikulam national park. At 2695 meter Anamudi is the highest peak in South India. Anamudi everest is part of munnar panchayath. Anamudi , Eravikulam is a destination for adventure trekkers and wild photographers alike. Climbing Anamudi  requires special permission from the forest department, but no entry fees. The Eravikulam national park is located in the same area and is dedicated to the protection of the endangered Neelakurinji and stripes. It is located in the southern region of Eravikulam national park at the junction of Anamalai hills, Cardamom hills, and Palani hills. During the Sabarimala season, devotees  travel to Sabarimala via Anamudi.

History of Anamudi.

Douglas Hamilton, general of the British army, reached Anamudi on May 4 1862 and marveled at the beauty of the forest and the mountains. He had never seen such a high peak anywhere in the Madras province. Anamudi is also known as everest of South India as there is no other peak at 2,479 meters south of the Himalayas.


Anamudi features steep flowing rivers, forested farms, Adventurous view points and mountains, these features have made Anamudi a favourite destination for tourists and photographers alike. The major crops in Anamudi are tea and cardamom.

Places To Visit Near Anamudi Hills.

1.Mattupetty Dam.

Mattupetty dam is located in the village of chithirapuram in mattupetty, Devikulam taluk , near Munnar in Idukki district. The reservoir is the reservoir of the pallivasal hydroelectric project. The dam is built on the muthirapuzha river , A tributary of the Periyar. It is a concrete gravity dam built for power generation. A valve has been installed at the bottom to drain the sludge from the dam. In 1954 construction completed. The famous eco point is here. Due to its proximity to Munnar, mattupetty dam attracts a large number of tourists.




2.Attukad Falls.

Attukad falls is located at a distance of 3 km from pallivasal on the Kochi - Dhanushkodi National Highway. It is the largest waterfall in the munnar region. Many tourists visit munnar to see the waterfall, which Cascades down from a height over 500 feet. Attukad is a popular destination for adventure tourists. Attukad is a beautiful place with lots of Streams, Cool Breezes and rare Flora.




3.TATA Tea Museum.

The tea museum is an industry and history museum, is situated in Munnar town in the idukki district of Kerala. Tata tea company has set up a museum in Munnar to learn all about tea. Tata tea museum is located on a Nalluthanni estate not far from the city of Munnar. If we go there,we will understand the machineries and that makes tea powder and how it works. The museum is open to visitors from 9 am to 4pm. Tourists can enter here on all other days except Monday. Tourists can buy a variety of tea powders from here.





4.Kundala Dam.

The dam was built on the Devikulam taluk, Munnar top station route in idukki district as part of the pallivasal  hydroelectric project at Muthirapuzha river as a tributary of the periyar at kundala dam. The dam is located at a distance of  20 km from Munnar. It is a major tourist destination o Munnar. Kundala dam is located on the way to Munnar top station.

Before climbing Anamudi Peak permission from the forest department must be obtained. It is better not to carry a lot of luggage. You must carry light snacks, nuts, and water when climbing Anamudi Peak.
